Post- Opiate Addiction Treatment: General Guidelines In Building Relationships

Before your opiate substance abuse treatment, you have probably hurt a lot of people and lost their trust. You have one way or another cheated on your partner, lied to your parents and missed your obligations to your kids.

During the peak of an opiate abuse disorder, relationships are often affected and ruined. In worse scenarios, some people have walked away from you. No matter how hard it is, there is hope waiting for you after your opiate abuse treatment.

The good news is, you can win your loved one back in recovery. It's not easy, but it takes time to rebuild the trust again.

Here are general guidelines on how you can repair broken relationships in recovery:

· Healing takes time.

No one can repair a broken relationship overnight. This is doubly harder when you have been at the opiate addiction treatment center more than once. This means, you have broken the trust of your loved ones more than once too.

The key here is, to learn to be patient and to focus on your commitment and hard work so that you'll earn their trust again. If they are deeply hurt, it may take longer time for them to forget.

Don't rush on fixing a relationship that is not yet ready. Everyone could still be feeling the pain and not ready to forgive. Wait for the right time. For the mean time, focus on your opiate addiction treatment and recovery.

· Be honest about your addiction and how it affected your relationship.

The only way to fix a broken relationship is to admit your mistake. Tell your loved one that you feel sorry for everything that you've done prior to your opiate abuse cure.

Cite the real situations that you have offended/ lied or cheated. By being honest about your shortcomings, you increase the chances that your loved one would forgive you.

· Make a plan of action.

If you know that you hurt your mother/ father/ spouse/ kids or siblings, plan a course of action immediately after your opiate addiction treatment. While facing your recovery, you can't put your relationship aside, particularly if you're going to stay in one home.

You need to think of ways on how you can fix the damage that you've created. Show your loved one that you are sincere and that you will not give up even they turn you down.

· Commit and stick with it.

Aside from being honest, another way to gain the trust of your loved one following your cure for opiate addiction is to prove yourself. You can begin by expressing your commitment to change.

It is easier if you work on the trust issues on a daily basis. Everyday, show something through your words and actions that you are worth to be trusted again.

· Make amends.

Saying sorry cannot fix a broken relationship. You've learned during your opiate abuse cure

that the support of your family is very important during recovery.

To gain support from them, it is truly important to make amends. If you've stolen something, make sure to replace it. If you lost your parents' trust, ensure that you show them that you are here to make your sobriety your ultimate goal.
